BUSINESS IDEATION
In innovation management, the ideation process is the stage of generating ideas and
solutions. This stage can be supported by sessions prepared to boost a company’s staff
to share and generate ideas. These sessions can include exercises such as sketching,
prototyping, brainstorming or brainwriting.
At this stage, it is all about making the right questions. The ‘How might we’ (HMW)
questioning process is often used under this phase to get answers regarding:
a) desirability: What users want? – HMW design a bracelet for the elderly that controls
their vitals and has a warning system for family and doctors?
b) viability: Can we do it? – HMW design a bracelet for the elderly with a warning
system with raising production costs?
c) feasibility: Is it doable? – HMW design a bracelet for the elderly with a warning
system with our current team of engineers?
Ideation is not just a one-time idea generation. It is a continuous process that divided
into three stages: idea generation, evaluation and selection and refinement and
development.
